In 1983, Central Group, Thailand’s leading retail conglomerate, formed Central Hotels & Resorts and opened its first property, the Hyatt Central Plaza Bangkok, together with the Bangkok Convention Centre. In June 2007, the company was rebranded as Centara Hotels & Resorts, and went on to expand successfully throughout Thailand and overseas. Currently there are 49 deluxe and first-class properties covering all the major tourist destinations in the Kingdom. A further 28 hotels and resorts in Maldives, Mauritius, Vietnam, Bali, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Qatar, Laos, Oman, Turkey and China brings the total to 77 diverse and professionally-run properties.
There are seven different Centara sub-brands, in order to cater to the broadest possible range of guests, with a special emphasis on families, who are catered for with a comprehensive ‘Kids’ Club’ available at the company’s many family-friendly resorts.
The company also operates three state-of-the-art convention centres in Bangkok, and two in northeastern Thailand; as well as 36 branches of Spa Cenvaree, one of Thailand’s most luxurious and innovative spa brands, plus the recently-launched value brand Cense.
The latest Centara brand is ‘COSI Hotels’, an affordable lifestyle brand designed for travellers who mainly book via the internet and who want comfort and convenience at affordable prices; the brand is under development, with the first property due to open in 2016.
